NYCHA PUBLIC HOUSING RESIDENTS OF WASHINGTON HOUSES RALLY TO TELL NYCHA BOARD MEMBER MARGARITA LOPEZ –DO NOT DUMP GARBAGE ON OUR HOMES!

ANGRY RESIDENTS DEMAND THAT NYCHA LISTEN TO RESIDENTS' VOICE AND RESCIND THE PLAN TO PLACE GARBAGE COMPACTORS ON OUR HOMES!

What: Residents from Washington Houses, a NYCHA development in East Harlem, are rallying with other community groups to demand that they rescind their garbage plan for the development. NYCHA board member Margarita Lopez, has single-handedly decided to forcefully move 6 garbage compactors from their current open area location to a public area (bar-b-ques and playground) between two residential buildings 220 E. 102nd Street and 230 E. 102nd Street within 100 feet of residential buildings. "To take away our public spaces and to bring in more rats, roaches and asthma conditions when we are already infested is inhumane" said Juanita Surita a 40 year resident of 230 E. 102nd Street. "NYCHA needs to respect residents' voices and needs- we live here, we have to live with the filth, noise, and 6 gargabae compactors and we should have a say where these compactors go" reiterated Prenzette Reid a resident of Washington Houses.

When: Saturday February 25th. 2012 at 1pm.

Where: AT The Picnic Area between 220 East 102nd Street and 230 East 102nd Street.

Visuals: Over 50 angry residents, signs, small children, and garbage.
