The students are members of 26 New York credit unions, representing every corner of the state.Nearly 1,700 students from 95 credit unions applied for the scholarships, which ranged from $250-$1,500. Nine NYCUA chapters also pooled resources and participated in the program.The program was open to New York credit union members who are high school seniors planning to enroll in a two- or four-year college. Award recipients were selected based on academic performance, honors
and awards, extracurricular activities, community activities, leadership roles and an essay."The New York credit union movement is proud to help our members and their families as they make one of the biggest and most important financial decisions of their lives: the decision to obtain a college degree," said NYCUA President and CEO William J. Mellin. "New York's credit unions have long-supported our young members who choose to pursue higher education, and we are pleased to continue that tradition with our 2015 scholarship program."Notably, in addition to the scholarships awarded through the NYCUA's statewide program, New York credit unions awarded more than $3.3 million in total scholarships to college-bound members in 2014.The New York Credit Union Association has served as the trade association
