NYS AFL-CIO Endorses Reelection of Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez

ALBANY, NY (06/12/2012)(readMedia)-- Today, the NYS AFL-CIO, which represents 2.5 million union members, their families, and retirees, announced that it has endorsed the reelection campaign of Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez in Congressional District 7.

NYS AFL-CIO President Mario Cilento said, "Congresswoman Velazquez's record speaks for itself. From ensuring safety and health on the job to defending collective bargaining, working men and women know that they can count on Nydia Velazquez to fight for them, not corporate special interests."

Congresswoman Velazquez said, "The endorsement of the New York State AFL-CIO reflects how many of my priorities are those of working families throughout the district, the state and the nation. At the heart of my agenda – and at the heart of the AFL-CIO's – is protecting and expanding workers' rights and livelihoods. As long as I am a member of Congress, I will continue to fight for these same values."

Cilento said, "Over the last ten years, Congresswoman Velazquez has shown that the ensuring the well-being of her district is her ultimate guiding principal. The labor movement is proud to stand with Nydia in her reelection campaign."

The NYS AFL-CIO represents approximately 35,000 working men and women in the 7th Congressional District.
