Today, the NYS AFL-CIO, which represents 2.5 million union members, their families, and retirees, announced that it has endorsed Sean Patrick Maloney for Congress.
NYS AFL-CIO President Mario Cilento said, "Sean Patrick Maloney is in touch with the values and priorities of the hardworking men and women of the 18th Congressional District; this is a quality that has been lacking in its representation in Washington over the last two years. His laser focus on education, worker training, and job creation is just what middle class New Yorkers want and need."
"I'm proud to have the support of the New York State AFL-CIO. My top priority is fighting for middle-class families to create good paying jobs, and protect access to quality education and healthcare here in the Hudson Valley," said Democrat Sean Patrick Maloney. "Working with labor, business and community leaders we can bring common sense solutions to congress and hold Nan Hayworth accountable for voting – twice – to end Medicare as we know it."
"As a constituent, I feel that middle class families in the Hudson Valley have been ill-served by our incumbent Congresswoman. Rep. Hayworth has been an ardent supporter of the Ryan Budget, which would privatize Medicare and has repeatedly refused to even meet with representatives of labor organizations to hear the concerns of her constituents. We cannot afford another two years of Hayworth and the Tea Party Congress. Sean Patrick Maloney is the strongest possible challenger. Sean served as an aide to President Clinton as part of administration that brought prosperity and security to average Americans. Sean has the vision and savvy to get things done for ordinary people in the Hudson Valley. That's why I am proud that the New York State AFL-CIO has endorsed Sean," said Paul Ellis-Graham, President of the Hudson Valley Area Labor Federation.
"With our endorsement in place, we can now begin a grassroots campaign to get our members to the polls and send Sean Patrick Maloney to Congress." added Cilento.
The NYS AFL-CIO represents approximately 60,000 working men and women in the 18th Congressional District.
