ALBANY, NY (12/15/2007)(readMedia)-- THE MEETING FOR THE NEW PUTNAM COUNTY CHAPTER OF THE NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR WOMEN IS POSTPONED DUE TO SEVERE WEATHER PREDICTIONS; FUTURE DATE TBA ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Women in Putnam County will gather to discuss how to bring feminism and women’s rights to their county. The location of the meeting is Mahopac Public Library, Mahopac, New York. The date of the first Putnam County NOW chapter meeting is Monday, December 17th, 2007 at 7:00 pm.
Marcia A. Pappas, President of NOW-New York State, will speak to the group to inspire, mentor and help bring awareness to citizens of Putnam County about the need to continue the fight for women’s rights.
As stated in the past, Pappas feels that “With a conservative Supreme Court and Bush in the White House, activists need to be vigilant. The women’s movement is alive and well. Because of the many threats to women’s rights by conservatives and the religious right, people are inquiring about starting new chapters and CAN’s (Campus Action Network’s) all over New York State. Women still do not have equal representation in the US Constitution! Since 1923, the Equal Rights Amendment has been introduced every year in Congress, only to fail over and over again. This alone should inspire women to become active to ensure full equality for women and girls.”
The new Putnam County NOW chapter Convener/President, Laura E. Leonard is an advocate and freelance writer. She will be available for comment.
