Melancholy Play tells the story of Tilly, a girl whose sadness is so beautiful, it makes her psychiatrist, her boyfriend, and two lesbian lovers fall head over heels for her. As their love for her grows, so does Tilly's happiness – and soon she is so happy that her admirers become melancholy themselves. Frances, Tilly's hairdresser and one of the lesbian lovers, becomes so melancholy that she turns into an almond. Only Tilly can bring her back.
