ROCHESTER, NY (01/26/2011)(readMedia)-- Nazareth College is pleased to announce that its board of trustees has officially approved the construction of a new Integrated Center for Math and Science on the Nazareth campus. Estimated to cost $30.5 million, the Center will house labs for science and math and also have classrooms and centers for research. The building will provide state of the art space for Nazareth's programs designed to provide critical hands-on, evidence-based educational experience and collaborative learning.
"The planned Center will meet the needs of our science and math programs. It also will support our growing programs in health and human services. Finally, the Center will be an important facility for educating and training future math and science teachers. In the short term, this project will be a boost to the Rochester economy with the addition of approximately 175 new construction jobs," said President Daan Braveman. "Our trustees know that building this facility will have a long term economic effect on the region as well. It will greatly benefit the community as we prepare the health care professionals and teachers who will serve the region for years to come."
Groundbreaking is expected for spring 2011, with a scheduled opening of the Center in fall 2012.
The Center is being designed according to LEED standards. It is expected to be certified at the Silver Level. The four-floor building will be the largest newly built academic facility on campus.
