Nelson Klavitter named Iowan of the Day

DES MOINES, IA (08/01/2024) (readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Nelson Klavitter of Dubuque as an Iowan of the Day for the 2024 Iowa State Fair.

Nelson is a huge proponent of living, working, and traveling in his hometown of Dubuque. He has been involved with Dubuque Main Street for over 30 years and is an ambassador for the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce. Nelson has helped plan Architecture Days for more than ten years, a free event of tours of Dubuque's most historic places. He was instrumental in the historic preservation of the former "Walsh Stores" that still exist downtown today. Furthermore, Nelson serves as a tour guide for Travel Dubuque and the Greater Dubuque Development Corporation, showcasing the place he calls home to job-seekers, newcomers, and those just traveling through.

Nelson has also been an active member of the Dubuque Noon Lions Club for over 50 years, where he volunteers at their food booth during the Dubuque County Fair and participates in other activities. Additionally, he actively contributes to Junior Achievement, where he volunteers on multiple boards and organizes various events.

Nelson's day of recognition will be Sunday, August 11th at the 2024 Iowa State Fair. He will be recognized with a presentation on the Anne & Bill Riley stage at 12:00 PM. Along with accommodations at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown, he will receive a gift bag, Grandstand Concert tickets, use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart, a cash prize, Iowa State Fair admission tickets, and VIP parking.
