New Congressional Action to Ban Gerrymandering, Mid-Decade Redistricting Popular with the People
Pro-democracy group urges New York's elected officials to support Redistricting Reform Act of 2025
NEW YORK, NY (09/18/2025) (readMedia)-- New York City, NY – Common Cause New York is urging New York's congressional delegation and state officials to support the Redistricting Reform Act of 2025, new legislation that would ban gerrymandering nationally and prohibit mid-decade redistricting. The legislation has remarkably broad support nationwide based on recent poll results commissioned by Common Cause.
"Republicans, Independents, and Democrats are all sick and tired of the political games that occur when our districts are drawn," said Susan Lerner, executive director of Common Cause New York. "Our federal and state representatives must listen to their constituents and put the power back into the hands of those who deserve it - the people. We will advocate to make sure our elected leaders co-sponsor, publicly support, and vote for this critical legislation."
The new legislation, sponsored by Representative Zoe Lofgren and Senator Alex Padilla, comes as recent polling indicates 70% of Americans support a law banning gerrymandering, and 66% support a ban on mid-decade redistricting.
