ALBANY, NY (06/24/2011)(readMedia)-- Robert Angelhow, a volunteer and member of AmeriCU Credit Union's board of directors, was named a 2011 Outstanding Volunteer by the Credit Union Association of New York at their Annual Meeting and Convention held recently in Lake Placid, N.Y.
The Volunteer of the Year award recognizes individuals who exemplify commitment to a credit union or to the New York credit union movement. Angelhow won the award in the asset category of more than $250 million.
"Volunteers like Robert are an essential part of what makes credit unions uniquely able to help members build a better financial future," said William J. Mellin, the Association's president/CEO.
Angelhow, chairman of the supervisory committee at AmeriCU Credit Union, has served his credit union for 43 years. Over the years, he has played an essential role in the credit union's extensive growth and transition from a federal to a state-chartered credit union.
Angelhow has also taken responsibility for assuring AmeriCU Credit Union's commitment to the Bank Secrecy Act, managing ongoing reviews and audits and making sure all policies established by regulators and the board of directors are carried out faithfully. He has encouraged credit union staff to pursue and obtain Certified Financial Services Auditor (CFSA) and Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) designations. Additionally, he oversees an independent professional CPA review and supervises two other voluntary supervisory committee members.
