SPRINGFIELD, IL (12/21/2012)(readMedia)-- Governor Pat Quinn has appointed a new Adjutant General for the Illinois National Guard. Maj. Gen. (IL) Daniel M. Krumrei will be available for interviews on Wednesday, Dec. 26.
• Krumrei was selected to lead the 13,000-servicemember Illinois National Guard replacing Maj. Gen. (ret.) William L. Enyart, who retired from the military to run successfully for Congress.
• Krumrei is the first actively serving Chaplain to be selected as The Adjutant General.
• Krumrei takes command of the Illinois National Guard at a time when the conflict in Afghanistan is winding down, the military faces budget cuts and many servicemembers have returned with issues stemming from long overseas deployments.
• Krumrei is charged with ensuring the readiness of the Illinois National Guard to respond to both domestic emergencies at home and military contingencies overseas.
• As The Adjutant General, Krumrei is in charge of several state and federal programs including the Illinois Military Family Relief Fund, the Lincoln's ChalleNGe Academy, the Illinois State Military Museum, Survivor Outreach Services, Illinois Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve and Service Member and Family Support Services Branch and others.
• Krumrei has served for more than 35 years rising from the rank of private.
• Krumrei is a veteran of Operation Desert Storm and has served overseas on multiple occasions.
