New York State Firefighters to Attend National Fire Academy Training in Maryland

ALBANY, NY (03/13/2012)(readMedia)-- Approximately 200 firefighters from across New York State will be participating in the 2-Day State Weekend Program offered at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, MD from March 17 to 18. This is the 27th year that this educational opportunity is offered for fire and rescue personnel from specific states.

The National Fire Academy (NFA) courses strengthen the fire service community through education, personal networking, and a shared collegial experience. The 2-Day State Weekend Program offers students an opportunity to grow professionally through a quality educational experience and to increase their knowledge and skills in order to provide a safe and effective response to their communities.

The Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services' Office of Fire Prevention and Control (OFPC) annually sponsors the New York State Weekend in cooperation with NFA. OFPC selects the courses, and then recruits and enrolls students according to established student selection criteria. The NFA hosts the program and provides instruction and course materials. This program provides a unique opportunity for NFA and State fire training agencies to collaborate in the delivery of a quality training program.

Course materials are provided at no cost to participants, and lodging is provided at no cost to representatives of career or volunteer departments and State/local governments.
