Newport native choreographs and performs in Beloit College's December Dance Workshop

BELOIT, WI (12/08/2011)(readMedia)-- A dance choreographed by Lizzi Belmont of Newport will take place during Beloit College's December Dance Workshop Performances on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 9 and 10. Belmont is a sophomore and a graduate of Newport High School. She is the daughter of Wayne Belmont and Sally Smith Belmont.

The performance is titled "Robots. Schoolgirls. Where did these windows come from?" and is set to the music of "Marriage" by Gold Panda. Belmont will also perform in a dance titled "Pull Apart The Collective."

These dances are among 20 student-choreographed dances to be performed during the annual December Dance Workshop. Student choreographers, who have either taken or are currently registered for choreography class, cast their pieces at the beginning of the fall semester and have been rehearsing ever since. The dances are publicly presented on two evenings, with an outside dance expert attending on the second night to give feedback and to choose which student pieces will be given an encore performance in Chelonia, Beloit College's annual dance performance in February.

Beloit College is a residential, liberal arts college offering 40 majors to its 1,250 students. Located 90 miles northwest of Chicago, Beloit is one of the nation's most international colleges, drawing students from 41 nations as well as 48 states.
