Nurse attacked at Tryon juvenile facility to tell her story
ALBANY, NY (05/23/2011)(readMedia)-- A nurse who was viciously attacked last week at the Tryon Residential Center for girls in Johnstown, Fulton County will speak to the press Tuesday, May 24.
The nurse, a member of the New York State Public Employees Federation (PEF), will discuss the circumstances of what led up to the attack and the injuries she suffered as a result. The attack took place Tuesday, May 17, and is one of several assaults by youth on staff at the facility in recent weeks.
PEF leaders will discuss how policies at the state Office of Children and Family Services facilities have negatively affected youth and staff.
The press conference will be held at PEF headquarters at 1168-70 Troy-Schenectady Road, Latham at noon.
PEF is the state's second-largest, state-employee union, representing 56,000 professional, scientific and technical employees.
