NEW YORK, NY (05/25/2010)(readMedia)-- An Orange County woman was arrested Thursday for accepting $14,850 from an insurance company after she falsely reported that her diamond ring had been lost or stolen, the New York State Insurance Department reported.
Highland Falls police arrested Nicole Williams, 36, of Autumn Leaf Court, Highland Falls. The arrest followed by an investigation by the police department, assisted by the Insurance Department's Frauds Bureau.
Investigators discovered that Williams filed the insurance claim with Allstate Insurance Company even though she knew that the ring was actually in the possession of her ex-husband.
Williams was charged with third degree insurance fraud. She was released pending a hearing scheduled June 1 in Orange County Court.
