NEW YORK, NY (09/19/2019) (readMedia)-- On Thursday a broad coalition of elected officials, nonprofits, unions, and advocates will join together to kick off the campaign for Ranked Choice Voting in New York City at Federal Hall. Ranked choice voting (RCV) will be the first question on the ballot in November.
In 2021, 70% of the City Council will be term limited, as well as all five borough presidents, Comptroller Scott Stringer and Mayor Bill de Blasio. That means at least 500 candidates will be competing for open seats.
Ranked choice voting would produce winners chosen by the majority of their district, save New York City money by avoiding costly run-offs, and help New Yorkers make sense of crowded candidate fields in primary and special elections.
