NIAGARA FALLS, NY (09/11/2009)(readMedia)-- Nearly one-thousand union delegates from across the state of New York will gather in Niagara Falls next week for the New York State Public Employees Federation's (PEF) 31st annual convention.
This year's convention is being held at the Conference Center Niagara Falls beginning Monday, September 14 and running through Wednesday, September 16.
Delegates will hear from PEF President Ken Brynien, who will deliver the "State of The Union" Address. Brynien lived and worked in Niagara Falls during part of his career. Delegates also will hear from other PEF leaders including Secretary-Treasurer Arlea Igoe, and Vice Presidents Joe Fox, Pat Baker and Tom Comanzo. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand will address delegates Monday morning. Niagara Falls Mayor Paul Dyster will welcome delegates during the opening session Monday.
This year's convention theme is "Ready - Set - Action!" Delegates will spend their days planning the union's agenda for the upcoming year and addressing legislative issues.
The convention also offers participants an opportunity to attend a variety of workshops that focus on current labor issues. The workshops include; Preparing for a Pandemic Influenza, Health Care Reform and Unions, Confronting Workplace Bullying and Co-Worker Conflict, Out-Of-Title Work is Bad For Everyone, and Mobilization Techniques.
