ALBANY, NY (09/05/2013)(readMedia)-- The City of Albany and the Downtown Albany Business Improvement District (BID) announce the opening and official ribbon cutting for Patsy's Pin-Ups, located at 7 Howard Street, on Friday, September 6, 2013 at 12:00 PM. Albany Mayor Gerald D. Jennings, Georgette Steffens, Executive Director, Downtown Albany BID and William Yager, owner of Patsy's, are scheduled to speak at the event. The media and public are invited to attend.
William Yager, owner of Patsy's Barbershop, developed the concept for Patsy's Pin-Ups, a beauty parlour catering exclusively to women, as an extension of his original shop. The two shops sit adjacent to one another in downtown Albany at 3 and 7 Howard Street respectively.
"Both shops are designed to take a step back in time," explains Yager, "similar to how we preserved the 1930's concept for Patsy's, as a barber shop central to gathering neighborhood information, Patsy's Pin-ups reflects a feminine side complete with a tiki-bar reception area, island music and retro decorations employed to create a desired pin-up era feel that celebrates strong women."
"It is always exciting to welcome new businesses, but it is a real testament to Downtown to see such creative reinvestment and expansion," said Mayor Gerald D. Jennings, "It is the dedication and commitment of business owners like William that will continue to help grow retail in Albany."
"I've always wanted to extend my shop to serve women," said Yager, "We've created a place where everyone – from grandmothers and sisters, mothers and daughters - can have a fun, unique experience."
Yager also hopes to take advantage of the parlour's close proximity to many wedding venues, especially the recently announced 90 State Street venture by Mazzone Hospitality.
"With world-class dining establishments, hotel offerings and unique venues, downtown Albany continues to grow as a destination for urban weddings," said Georgette Steffens, Executive Director, Downtown Albany BID, "Having Patsy's Barbershop and Pin-Ups recognize and invest in the idea continues to strengthen the draw for our Downtown."
