PHILADELPHIA, PA (09/13/2011)(readMedia)-- Elena Umland, PharmD, a Media resident, originally of Hanover, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Thomas Jefferson University's School of Pharmacy (JSP), was recognized for her dedication to higher education at Jefferson's annual awards ceremony in June.
Dr. Umland received the Jefferson Award for Excellence in Interprofessional Education, which recognizes outstanding faculty members who demonstrate excellence in interprofessional education, and whose efforts have resulted in sustained impact on interprofessional collaboration to improve the education of Jefferson students. Her award was presented by Molly Rose, FNP, PhD, Co-Director of Jefferson InterProfessional Education Center. "Dr. Umland's most profound role in Interprofessional Education (IPE) is that of mentor and champion of the tenets of interprofessional teamwork and collaboration. When she discusses IPE, her students listen, learn and look for more ways to get involved" Dr. Rose said. "She represents the future of IPE and helps bring new models of IPE to the training of health professionals across the country."
