SCHENECTADY, NY (07/23/2009)(readMedia)-- Price Chopper Supermarkets, a 'family in business', parented by The Golub Corporation since 1932, announced today plans to build a 56,000 sq. ft. Food & Pharmacy in the town of Warwick, New York. This will be the company's third store in Orange County. Other locations are Middletown and Newburgh.
Town Supervisor, Michael Sweeton stated, "The Town is extremely pleased to welcome Price Chopper to our community. Not only are they great corporate citizens, but they also bring a reputation for quality products at great prices".
"We are thrilled to introduce ourselves to the community of Warwick and surrounding communities. I am confident that consumers will appreciate the superior quality and value of what Price Chopper has to offer. We are truly committed to the best in fresh...and low prices," stated Neil Golub, President and CEO for the company.
In addition to offering value on groceries, general merchandise and health and beauty care items, the store will feature perishable departments that have become the chain's signature. The produce department will stock superior quality fresh fruits and vegetables from around the world while the meat department will feature the freshest Certified Angus Beef, USDA choice beef, Grade A poultry and western grain fed pork available, and cooking tips topped by a 200% guarantee. The bakery department will draw shoppers with the aroma of fresh-baked crusty European-style artisan breads, muffins, cakes, and Sweet Decadence desserts. The Bagel Factory offers made from scratch, all natural New York City style bagels. Price Chopper's award-winning seafood department will display the widest variety of the world's freshest seafood and the added convenience of frying or steaming any purchase free of charge.
The new store will feature a Pharmacy that will be open seven days a week. It will be staffed by professional pharmacists to fill prescriptions and offer advice on family health needs.
Price Chopper's "Central Market Florist" is a major player in the FTD market, and will offer consumers excellent quality and value for everyday purchases, holidays and special events like weddings.
The projected opening is early next year. The company, with this store and in all future construction, will strive to meet or exceed US Green Building Council LEED® (Leadership in Energy Efficient Design) standards to minimize impact on the environment and natural resources.
"This is a terrific project being delivered at a very difficult time. Goddard Development Partners III is proud to have brought this about and we give great credit to our friends at Price Chopper for grasping the opportunity, to the Town of Warwick and to everyone else involved," said Adrian Goddard, Managing Partner for Goddard Development.
For over 75 years, Price Chopper has been committed to giving back to the communities it serve. To show appreciation to the community of Warwick and surrounding villages, Price Chopper, for the second year, will support the Warwick Senior Citizen's picnic. The company has also offered support for the Warwick in Bloom's Show Me The Door contest.
The store will create approximately 238 full and part-time jobs for the community and will be open 24 hours.
Based in Schenectady, New York, the Golub Corporation owns and operates 119 Price Chopper grocery stores in New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
