SCHENECTADY, NY (08/31/2009)(readMedia)-- Price Chopper has teamed up with the Adirondack Save-A-Stray (ASAS) to provide food for newly adopted cats, kittens, puppies and dogs. For several years, Price Chopper has been donating food, treats and cat litter to help care for the animals at the shelter, and they've recently expanded that support. Each newly adopted furry friend will go home with a bag of Price Chopper Best Friends Dog or Cat food and a coupon for a future purchase of the food. Price Chopper offers a wide variety of pet food enriched with healthy vitamins and minerals which offers complete, balanced nutrition for pets.
"Price Chopper is proud to partner with ASAS to help save the lives of cats and dogs, and give them a life they deserve", says Regina Tator, Director of Corporate Brands at Price Chopper.
Adirondack Save-A-Stray is a non-profit, non-kill animal shelter operating in Corinth, NY, giving animals a second chance at life and operating with the motto 'Saving one dog or cat may not change the world, but it will certainly change the world of that one animal.' ASAS rescues animals from across the country, as well as within their own community and has saved thousands of animals from all regions of the U.S. over the last 25 years. Adoptive families go through an interview process to ensure the right fit with their new pet. This process supports the shelter's purpose of placing pets with responsible, loving and forever homes that will provide proper treatment, medical care and love. ASAS has a strong commitment to spaying, neutering and placing pets properly, as to not contribute with pet overpopulation. Upon adoption, the families receive Best Friends food, a training DVD, leash and collar, an herbal bath, and a month's worth of heart guard or flea control. Upon arrival at the shelter, each of the animals is evaluated by a veterinarian and given age-appropriate vaccinations and parasite control.
Meredith Fiel, Director of ASAS confirms "The relationship has been a huge success - since the program's inception, 500 bags of pet food have been provided to new pet parents and their families. Most have contacted the shelter telling us how much their animals love the food and enjoy the extra health benefits it provides!"
