ST. PAUL, MN (05/11/2009)(readMedia)-- Concordia University, St. Paul will award an honorary Doctor of Letters degree to David. M. Roth of Prior Lake, Minn., during the university's commencement ceremony being held May 15, 2009, at 7:30 p.m., in the Gangelhoff Center. The Doctor of Letters degree is granted to individuals for creative contributions to their field of endeavor.
Roth has served in Lutheran education for more than 40 years. Since 1992, he has served as the assistant to the president in Education for the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod's Minnesota South District. In the past, he coordinated settings, including support services for 550 teachers and 6,000 students in Lutheran education, 50 early childhood centers, 49 elementary schools and eight high schools. He is actively involved in the calling process for LCMS church professionals.
Roth was appointed by the governor of Minnesota to the Nonpublic Education Council in 1993 where he still serves. He is also a member of the Choice in Education Coalition, the Minnesota Council of Private Education and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Scott County Chapter Board.
Roth earned his bachelor's degree from Concordia Teachers College, River Forest, Ill., and holds a master's degree in Elementary School Administration from the University of Cincinnati in Ohio. He lives in Prior Lake, Minn., with his wife, Jeanine, a retired Lutheran educator. They have two grown children, Jennifer and Christopher, who also have a background in and passion for education.
