Public Employees Federation Plans Protest to Urge Gov. Cuomo to Save Western New York Children's PC

ALBANY, NY (01/18/2017)(readMedia)-- On Thursday, January 19, the New York State Public Employees Federation (PEF), along with dozens of community members, will hold a demonstration urging Gov. Andrew Cuomo to save Western New York Children's Psychiatric Center.

PEF members are fighting to keep this facility open not because of personal reasons, as there will be no jobs lost. The members are fighting to protect the children they serve, who would be removed from their safe facility and placed in an adult psychiatric center. PEF members say the WNY Children's Psychiatric Center is located on valuable land, and that the state should not sell out vulnerable children for profits.

Thursday's demonstration is part of a national day of action, co-sponsored by the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and the Alliance to Reclaim Our Schools (AROS). More than 100,000 people will be participating in similar day-of-action events at over 2,000 schools in 200 cities.
