Report: Consumers Pay High Price for Health Insurance Industry Campaign Contributions

Maltese follows Majority Leader Skelos and other Senate Republicans in failing to act against increasing health insurance rates and to support clean elections

ALBANY, NY (09/09/2008)(readMedia)-- On Wednesday, September 10th, Citizen Action of New York City joined by Make The Road, will hold a press conference to release a new report by Citizen Action of New York finding that the Republican majority in the State Senate received more than three times the heath insurance industry campaign contributions as the Democratic-controlled Assembly majority in the 2003-2007 period, while the same Senators failed to pass legislation to regulate the skyrocketing cost of health care premiums.

The groups will call for an end to the current "pay-to-play" system in Albany through passage of the "Clean Money" system of public financing of election campaigns. Citizens will call on candidates to make their position on clean elections and health insurance rate regulation known to the public.
