DES MOINES, IA (01/10/2017)(readMedia)-- The Iowa State Education Association's (ISEA) priorities for Iowa students are clear. Every student, regardless of ZIP code is entitled to a secure, healthy and robust educational environment so they are able to learn. This means funding for our public schools must be adequate, equitable and sustainable. While we appreciate the governor did not cut Iowa's education budget, our hope was that he would fund it properly. Two percent SSA does not maintain the needs of Iowa's schools and students.
We simply must fund our schools with an adequate cost of living adjustment if we want to see smaller class sizes, replace outdated curriculum, and continue with vigorous course offerings. In classrooms across the state, ISEA members are hard at work following up on the promises they make each fall to their students: delivering the best instruction each and every day, pushing their students to do their best, and providing them with the best resources they can offer. Why can't we count on our elected officials to help?
