Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for new National Guard training facility will be Sunday at Fort Belvoir, Va.
Regional Training Institute will serve thousands of Guardsmen and women from around the nation
WASHINGTON, DC (09/09/2010)(readMedia)-- A ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new D.C. National Guard building will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Fort Belvoir, Va. The 260th Regiment Regional Training Center will serve Guardsmen and women around the nation as a military training facility.
Construction on the $13.7 million RTI includes billeting for about 78 soldiers, dining facility, three classrooms, an auditorium, combat training equipment, Virtual Convoy Operations Training and Humvee escape training capability.
Planning and construction for the state-of-the-art facility has taken several years. Its purpose is to provide quality training, education, and professional development, including room for the DCNG Officer Candidate School.

Among the event's dignitaries and participants will be Maj. Gen. Errol R. Schwartz, Commanding General of the D.C. National Guard; officials from the National Guard Bureau; cheerleaders for the Washington Wizards; the DC Roller Girls; and other VIPs.
The media is invited to attend. Expected attendance is about 300 people. If there are poor weather conditions, the ceremony will be conducted inside the Training Complex in the auditorium.
