Richard McClure named Iowan of the Day

DES MOINES, IA (07/23/2019) (readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Richard McClure of Sidney as an Iowan of the Day for the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

Richard (Dick) McClure often referred to as "handlebars" for his mustache, has always been an Iowa boy whose focus has been on volunteering for his great state. Dick retired in 2000 after working for the ISU Extension Service for 43 years. During those years, he took 4-Hers to Washington D.C. 12 times to attend the Citizenship/Washington Focus learning experience.

Dick received the Iowa State Fair Hall of Fame award in 2005, recognizing a person for their contributions to the 4-H program. He also started Two County Dusters Equestrian Drill Team. During retirement Dick was part of a food grade corn corporation, Quality Iowa Maize (QIM). He has also been a member of the local Masons and Shrine organizations. Dick is a member of the Home Town Pride organization and Chairman of the Boot project. Ten boot sculptures have been completed and are displayed around the Fremont County Court House.

Dick's day of recognition will be Wednesday, August 14 at the 2019 Iowa State Fair. He will be recognized with a presentation on the Anne & Bill Riley stage at 2:00 p.m. Along with accommodations at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown, he will receive a gift bag, Grandstand tickets, use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart, a cash prize, Iowa State Fair admission tickets, and VIP parking.

The program continues to honor Iowans across the state who have made a difference in the lives of others, while upholding the characteristics associated with Iowa- dependability, integrity, hard work and sense of community.
