SPRINGFIELD, IL (02/22/2018) (readMedia)-- Springfield, Ill. – Pvt. Austin Handel, of Rock Falls, Illinois, was sworn into the Illinois Army National Guard Feb. 20, at the Chicago Military Entrance Processing Station.
Handel enlisted as a 31B, Military Police, and is assigned to Company C, Recruit Sustainment Program in Machesney Park, Illinois.
Upon completion of his initial training, Handel will be assigned to the 333rd Military Police Company.
Handel is a junior at Rock Falls High School, Rock Falls, Illinois.
After successfully completing his training, Handel will be eligible for the Illinois National Guard Grant, which pays 100 percent of college tuition while he works as a full-time student and a part-time Soldier. He will also be eligible for the Select Reserve G.I. Bill and federal tuition assistance.
Staff Sgt. Bobby Kibodeaux of Company C, congratulated Handel and welcomed him into the Illinois Army National Guard.
