OAK PARK MI (01/28/2011)(readMedia)-- Ron Savage, anchor/investigative reporter with WJBK, Fox 2 Detroit has joined the American Lung Association in the Fight For Air as the 2011 Fight For Air Climb Detroit Emcee and Honorary Firefighter Competition Chair.

Ron's no stranger to the world of firefighting. When he's not at Fox 2, Ron serves as a Firefighter/EMT with the Brighton Area Fire Department. Ron says his "part-time job as a firefighter is a lot like working with the Problem Solvers...it's gratifying to help people in need."

On Sunday March 6th Firefighters from Metro Detroit and beyond will take part in the event's new Firefighter Challenge. Firefighter teams will climb 70 stories of the Detroit Renaissance Center in full firefighting gear. Firefighters will be awarded prizes for the fastest team, fastest individual and fundraising efforts.

Participants not participating in the Firefighter Challenge will challenge themselves to climb 70 (1,035 stairs) or 40 floors of the Renaissance Center climb while raising money to help support the fight against lung disease.

The goal of the event is to raise $140,000 to support lung health research, education and advocacy in Michigan.

Spots are still available for both the firefighter competition and civilian challenges. Registration is available online at www.ClimbDetroit.org or by calling 248-784-2000.

35 million Americans are living with chronic lung diseases such as asthma, lung cancer and COPD. Lung cancer is America's #1 cancer killer.

The Fight For Air Climb Detroit is sponsored by Henry Ford Health System, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Genentech, Burns & Wilcox, Outdoor Athlete Magazine and the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center.
