ALBANY, NY (02/02/2014)(readMedia)-- Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York is pleased to announce Mary L. Buszuwski as the organization's new CEO. A native Upstate New Yorker from Endicott, NY, Mary spent most of her career in the Washington, D.C. metro area in executive leadership positions for major non-profit powerhouse organizations. She began that with the American Red Cross National Headquarters in 1991 which launched a 12 year career concluding with her position as Executive Officer in 2003. She was responsible for building the community service and fundraising capability of 940 chapters nation-wide through management evaluations, national grant programs, and a nationally recognized "best practices" information exchange system. She then held the position of Chief Operating Officer for the Melwood Training Center in Maryland, a $69 million human services operation with 500+ employees that creates jobs and opportunities to improve the lives of people with disabilities throughout Metro Washington, DC and Maryland. Mary left Melwood to accept the #2 position at the American Nurses Association serving as Chief Operating Officer where she represented the interests of 3.1 million RNs. Highlights of her responsibilities include oversight of the American Nurses Foundation, member services & marketing, business development, continuing education, finance, HR and IT. Mary holds a BA (Magna Cum Laude) from Boston College and MBA from The George Washington University along with certifications from the Society of Certified Senior Advisors (Certified Senior Advisor - CSA) and Society of Association Executives (Certified Association Executive – CAE).

A former Girl Scout, Mary has a clear vision for the future of Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York: "We know Girl Scout programs are fun and make an incredible difference in the lives of girls, whether they live on a dairy farm in Fulton County, in an apartment in downtown Albany or in a suburban neighborhood of Plattsburgh. We intend to reach more girls in Northeastern New York so that by 2020, one in four girls will be involved with Girl Scouts on their journey to becoming the future citizens and leaders of our region, state and country – joining 59 million women (Girl Scout Alumnae) who have benefited from Girl Scouting to propel their successes. To achieve this goal, Girl Scouts needs more family and adult volunteers willing to share their time and experience to join with us; to consider innovative approaches and programs that meet the needs of our volunteer and girl members; and to develop the resources and public support necessary to make this a reality. I am confident that with the assistance of countless volunteers, community partners and generous financial support from throughout this region, we will achieve our goal."
