Sarah Green of Pinehurst Earns Academic Recognition at Skidmore College
SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (06/17/2011)(readMedia)-- Sarah Green, a member of the Class of 2011 at Skidmore College, earned academic recognition at the college this spring.
She is the daughter of Patrick and Susan Bellew of Pinehurst.
Green earned a B.A. degree summa cum laude with honor in Spanish at Skidmore's 100th commencement in May. In addition, she was elected to membership in the college's Phi Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the national honor society that recognizes superior achievement in the liberal arts.
Green received the Sonja P. Karsen Prize in Spanish, established in honor of a retired professor and presented annually to recognize outstanding accomplishment by a senior major. She also earned the Jerome Solomon Ginsberg Memorial Award in International Affairs, awarded to an international affairs junior or senior for academic excellence in the study of international affairs.
At the end of the spring semester Green learned that she has received a Fulbright research award to support study in Argentina. An International Affairs/Spanish double major with an Environmental Studies minor, she will combine her academic interests in her Fulbright project, titled "Changing representations of environmental issues in Argentine literature." Green will investigate the evolution of environmental thought in Argentina by studying a number of different literary texts and journals to track the growth of the environmental movement in a country that is in the midst of development. She will be based at the National University of La Plata.
During her Skidmore career, Green was a member of Periclean, Skidmore's own academic honor society, which was formed in 1956 to stimulate intellectual curiosity, encourage creative activity, and honor academic achievement.
Founded in 1903, Skidmore College is a coeducational, liberal arts college with an enrollment of approximately 2,400 students. The college grants the bachelor's degree in some 60 majors, including both traditional liberal arts disciplines and preprofessional programs. Skidmore also awards the master of arts in liberal studies degree.
