SAVANNAH, GA (09/26/2011)(readMedia)-- Savannah College of Art and Design alumnus Brent Kiser (B.F.A., sound design, 2006) recently won an Emmy® in the Outstanding Sound Editing for Nonfiction Programming (Single Or Multi-Camera) category for his work on the History Channel's "Gettysburg" special. Kiser served as the sound effects editor for the two-hour special focusing on the decisive battle of the American Civil War. The Primetime Emmy Awards celebrate excellence in national primetime programming, awarding top honors at the annual creative arts and primetime awards ceremonies.
"It's so unreal. I've literally been shaking since they called our name at The Emmy's," said Kiser. "I put all my energy into these projects because it's what I love and to have The Academy recognize my dedication makes the sacrifices justifiable."
Executive produced by Ridley and Tony Scott, "Gettysburg" strips away the romanticized veneer of the Civil War and presents the engagement in a new light: a visceral, terrifying experience with everything on the line. Developed in collaboration with highly esteemed Civil War historians, "Gettysburg" reflects hundreds of individual accounts of the battle-the unique voices of struggle, defeat and triumph that tell the larger story of a bitterly conflicted nation.
Kiser is the CEO of Unbridled Sound, which provides post-production sound for film, television, radio, DVD content, commercials, promos, Web content and viral content. The company will be the sound supervisor on VH1's Pop Up Video, which is returning in early October after a decade long hiatus.
SCAD is the first and only university in the United States to offer B.F.A., M.A. and M.F.A. degree programs in sound design for media. The university is the only institution that teaches sound design with a practical connection to film and games, as well as aesthetics and theory.
