DES MOINES, IA (02/27/2013)(readMedia)-- The Des Moines Education Association (DMEA), the Iowa State Education Association (ISEA), Everybody Wins! Iowa, Merle Hay Mall, and Smilemakers join together for the National Education Association's 16th Annual Read Across America celebration honoring beloved author Dr. Seuss and his passion for reading. The event will be held on Friday, March 1, from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at Merle Hay Mall in Des Moines.

WHAT: | Read Across America celebrates beloved author Dr. Seuss and promotes good literacy habits in children. The event focuses on getting kids excited about reading with free books distributed to help keep them reading at home. Also planned is a Dr. Seuss costume contest with prizes, coloring and drawing activities, appearances by Des Moines area mascots, and cookies compliments of the Merle Hay Mall. Helping children to develop good reading skills is an important factor in student achievement and lifelong success. As educators, we want children to know that reading is important and fun, and we want adults to know that you're never too old, too wacky, or too wild to pick up a book and read with a child! |
