Sherwin Williams Leading the Race in American Lung Association's Annual Fight For Air Climb
CLEVELAND, OH (02/18/2015)(readMedia)-- On March 7th, the 64 members of Sherwin Steppers will be joining 550 men, women and children as they climb Terminal Tower's 804 stairs in the American Lung Association's 5th Annual Fight For Air Climb. The team, representing Cleveland-grown paint company Sherwin Williams, will be back to defend their title as the highest company fundraising team in the competition. And this year they have their eyes set on a new goal: winning.
The team has grown to become one of the largest teams in ALA races nationwide, a fact that team leader and stair climbing aficionada Tim Stradtman attributes to a healthy competitive spirit and a culture of support. "The team culture is about being competitive with each other. If team members are in the company fitness center at the same time, they're always trying to outdo each other. Our fastest men are a competitive father and son team, Marty and Mick Lucas, who always chasing each other to the top."
And Sherwin Williams is happy to support their hard work. "The office is really supportive of the Climb. They put up a special calendar that shows practices, and help organize fundraising activities like a jeans day and a bar party."
But for Stradtman, who started the climb started as a simple way to get healthy exercise, this race holds a special meaning. "This particular climb is in memory of my Granny, whose picture will be hanging in Terminal Tower on climb day. Sadly, we lost due her due to complications from many years of heavy smoking. And despite knowing this, I was a smoker for a long time. My quit date was 1 August, 2013. I could not climb stairs the way I do if I still smoked, and support from ALA's stop smoking programs were an important part of my quitting process."
The Fight for Air Climb helps to increase awareness and raise money for the American Lung Association's fight against lung disease. Funds raised will be put towards lung health research, education, and advocacy.
