Southern California University of Health Sciences Faculty Members Receive Professor Emeritus Awards

WHITTIER, CA (08/03/2009)(readMedia)-- Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU) is pleased to announce that faculty members Drs. Charles Fernandez, Emile Goubran, Paul Hooper, and David Lin were honored with the Professor Emeritus award. The ceremony and reception took place during the evening of July 23 at the newly-renovated Standard Process Pavilion on the university's campus. Earlier that day, the Associated Student Body held a Faculty Appreciation Luncheon at the Glen on campus to recognize the contributions of all faculty members.

Dr. Charles Fernandez was Associate Professor and Coordinator of Community Outreach Services, and has been with SCU since 1985. In 1988 he was named Director of the university's Glendale, CA health center and went on to serve as Chief of Staff for SCU's University Health Center system. Dr. Fernandez received his Master's of Science from SCU and Doctor of Chiropractic from Logan College of Chiropractic.

Dr. Emile Goubran has been with SCU since 1979 and was a Professor and Chairman of the Basic Sciences Division from 1981-1999 and Chairman of the Anatomy and Physiology Department from 2002-2005. He received his Medical, Master's, and PhD degrees from Alexandria University Medical School in Egypt.

Dr. Paul Hooper has been with SCU since 1986, and was a Professor and Chairman of the Principles and Practices Department. He received his Bachelor's of Science at Pittsburgh State University and his Doctor of Chiropractic at Cleveland College of Chiropractic. He also has two Master's of Science degrees and is currently enrolled at Stout University of Wisconsin.

Dr. David Lin has been with SCU since 1980. He retired in 2007 after serving as Chairman of the Biochemistry and Basic Sciences departments. He received his PhD in Molecular Biology from State University of New York at Buffalo, his Master's of Science in Biology from the College of William & Mary in Virginia, and his Bachelor's of Science in Biology from Taiwan Normal University in Taipei.

Southern California University of Health Sciences incorporates the College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic, the School of Professional Studies, and the University Health Center.

Since 1911 Southern California University of Health Sciences has been a leader in preparing practitioners and providing care in complementary and alternative medicine, and is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, and Council on Chiropractic Education.
