Spencer Cheng of Bainbridge Island Earns Academic Recognition at Skidmore College

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (07/19/2011)(readMedia)-- Spencer Cheng, a member of the Class of 2011 at Skidmore College, earned academic recognition at the college this spring.

He is the son of Ann Cheng of Bainbridge Island and Ulysses Cheng, also of Bainbridge Island.

Cheng earned a B.S. degree summa cum laude with honor in business at Skidmore's 100h commencement in the spring.

He also received the Jefferson Huff '88 Prize in Business, named in honor of an alumnus and presented annually to a junior or senior business student who has a distinguished academic record and has produced an outstanding project in business.

During his Skidmore career, Cheng was elected to membership two honor societies: Pi Mu Epsilon, the national honorary mathematics society, and Periclean, Skidmore's own academic honor society, which was formed in 1956 to stimulate intellectual curiosity, encourage creative activity, and honor academic achievement.

A four-year member of the Skidmore men's tennis team (and captain of the team in his senior year), Cheng also was a member of the Skidmore Thoroughbred Society, which recognizes varsity student-athletes who have achieved a grade point average of 3.67 or higher.

Founded in 1903, Skidmore College is a coeducational, liberal arts college with an enrollment of approximately 2,400 students. The college grants the bachelor's degree in some 60 majors, including both traditional liberal arts disciplines and preprofessional programs. Skidmore also awards the master of arts in liberal studies degree.
