State Fair Games Continue to Bring Out Iowa Talent

DES MOINES, IA (08/21/2009)(readMedia)-- Team Rockin' the Beer Gut captured first place during the State Fair Games held Friday at the 2009 Iowa State Fair. Doug Jones, Eddie Tomas, Dave Campbell, Randy Pettit and Kyle Weaver, all from Afton, flew through the five events to end with a first place title.

Campers Three from Stratford took second place. It included team members Kyle Westrom, Mitch Peterson, Jacob Ahrens, Trena McWilliams and Leann Williams. Third place was awarded to the Campers made up of Jonna Tudor, Rick Tudor, Travis Westrom, Derek Barns and Bob McWilliams. Fourth place went to Campers Two including teammates Deb Bergman, Brady Bergman, Baily Bergman, Mollie Westrom and Alyssa Runyon, all of Stratford.

Returning to the Fair for the second year, the State Fair Games test Fairgoers' competitive spirit and enthusiasm. These games feature a pentathlon, complete with a 100 meter tractor pedal race, hay bale scramble, cow chip toss and goat race all leading up to a highly-charged final corndog scarf and lemonade chug. Each day's winning team earns medals and the chance to compete for the title of State Fair Games Champions.

"State Fair Time" runs through August 23. The Fairgrounds are located at East 30th and East University Avenue, just 10 minutes east of downtown Des Moines, and are open 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. each day of the Fair. Exhibit hours may vary.
