State Fair Increases Security Measures for 2016

Enhancements to Safety & Security Program to Include Bag Checks at Entrance Gates

ST. PAUL, MINN. (08/16/2016)(readMedia)-- The Minnesota State Fair's comprehensive security program will be expanded for 2016 to include bag checks at all entry gates. Bags, purses, coolers and packages will be subject to search at each of the State Fair's 11 entrances during the upcoming fair.

The State Fair has also adjusted safety procedures in several other areas including security staffing levels, vehicle access, traffic management and video.

The State Fair's security plan is developed in conjunction with local, state and federal public safety agencies. The fair greatly expanded its security systems in 2002. Since then, the fair has annually made adjustments to its security systems and added new public safety features.

Important Note: State Fair organizers will host a media availability at 1:30 p.m. today, Tuesday, Aug. 16 at the Bandshell on the fairgrounds. General Manager Jerry Hammer will discuss and answer questions about the fair's expanded safety and security program. Prior to the fair's start, this is your opportunity to capture sound and video pertaining to security plans. Enter the fairgrounds through Gate #7 off of Como Avenue (behind the Haunted House). Park news vehicles along Cosgrove Street or in nearby parking lots. Please arrive a few minutes early if you plan to participate, as we will begin promptly at 1:30 p.m. This event will take place rain or shine, thanks to the roof covering the Bandshell Stage.
