Mario Cilento, president of the New York State AFL-CIO, said "The decision by Dr. Howard to accept all STAC recommendations as part of the World Trade Center Health Program is long overdue good news for so many first responders, recovery workers, and residents of Lower Manhattan. The labor movement will remain vigilant to ensure that all victims of 9/11 receive the necessary treatment and compensation to which they should be entitled."

Steve Cassidy, president of the Uniformed Firefighters Association ,said "We are pleased with Dr. Howard's decision to accept the STAC Committee's recommendation to include cancers. No group suffered greater exposure to the 9-11 toxins than New York City Firefighters. We toiled at the site for months-on-end, throughout the rescue and recovery efforts. While this inclusion of cancers will not solve the health issues of those that are sick, it is a critically important decision towards protecting their families."

Al Hagan, president of the Uniformed Fire Officers Association, said "We're gratified that the scientific studies will provide relief for our members who are sick and dying."

Lillian Roberts, Executive Director of DC 37 AFSCME, said "We are delighted with today's announcement by the federal government that it has accepted the recommendations of the WTC HP Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee to include numerous forms of cancer as covered conditions. District Council 37 and the many members who will now be able to benefit from much-needed treatment and medication welcome this news."
