ALBANY, NY (05/18/2011)(readMedia)-- The statewide professional photographers' association that provides networking and educational opportunities to its members (and information to the public) has elected Broome County photographer Greg Lewis as its new president. The Professional Photographers' Society of New York State (PPSNYS) announced the results of the election, today.

Lewis, a credentialed ophthalmic photographer, who has owned and operated Lewis PhotoConcepts, with his wife, Sharon, since 1994, has been an active member of PPSNYS for 17 years. He's held numerous leadership positions in state and regional photography trade groups, including two terms as vice president and president of The Southern Tier Professional Photographers. Since 1995, he's also been a member of The Professional Photographers of America and The Wedding and Portrait Photographers International. His other leadership roles include two years as PPSNYS Conference Speaker Chair.

In 2001, he earned credentials as a Certified Professional Photographer (CPP), and was re-certified in 2006. Lewis said the certification is granted by the same credentialing organization that certifies licensed professionals. "The process consists of a grueling written exam," he explained, "together with a judging panel review of submitted images." In addition to the photography education he's gained from seminars and workshops offered through PPSNYS, he's also received forensic photographer training at the Miami Forensic Imaging Bureau. The father of five, Lewis is also regional coordinator of a volunteer group of professional photographers that provides help and support to parents dealing with bereavement issues.

Lewis says the organization (PPSNYS) is poised for growth because it offers professional photographers the opportunity to upgrade their skills, exchange ideas with colleagues from across the state, and learn effective techniques for operating their studios profitably and ethically. One of the unique features of PPSNYS, says Lewis, is that its members provide backup coverage for each other. "If a member is sick or injured, another member will fill in for them at an event. This benefit guarantees customers that they will have competent coverage of their wedding or other event, regardless of any photographer's health issues or emergencies."
