Super Bowl Party Bottles and Cans Help Save Homeless Animals

ALBANY, NY (02/03/2012)(readMedia)-- Super Bowl XLVI on Sunday, February 5th means hundreds of parties and gatherings will generate thousands of empty bottles and cans. Redeemable bottles and cans will benefit homeless, abused and abandoned animals when you donate them to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society.

All four of the Goldstein Auto Group's dealerships will serve as collection points for the donated bottles and cans. "We are very thankful for the Goldstein family's support of the Humane Society. People donating bottles and cans have always had to make a special trip to our Menands shelter. The Goldsteins have made it much more convenient for everyone to help animals," Brad Shear, Executive Director said.

Last year the Society's "Empties for Animals" program generated over $74,000 in revenue. Individual members of the community, school groups and other organizations dropped off more than 925,000 cans and bottles. Volunteers sorted all those bottles and cans based upon the originating distributor, which in turn generated 8 cents per can/bottle instead of the regular 5-cent redemption fee paid at stores. Monies from

the programs were used to benefit the more than 6,500 animals cared for by the Society in 2011.

"By providing four more convenient collection points at our dealerships, we hope to make this year's 'Empties for Animals' the best ever! If you can't get to us and have a lot of cans, call Stefanie Goldstein at 869-1250 and we will arrange to have them picked up!" Alan Goldstein, President of Goldstein Auto Group said.

Redeemable containers will be collected at:

Goldstein Buick/GMC, 1671 Central Avenue, Albany

Goldstein Chrysler Jeep Dodge, 613 Loudon Rd, Latham (across from Hoffman's Playland)

Goldstein Subaru, 1754 Central Avenue, Albany

Goldstein Mitsubishi, 1673 Central Avenue, Albany

Bottles and cans will also be accepted at the Humane Society at 3 Oakland Avenue in Menands. Founded in 1887, the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, the largest animal protection agency in New York's Capital Region, is celebrating its 125th Anniversary this year. The Society is committed to protecting and providing for abused and orphaned animals and finding them suitable new homes. It receives no funding from local, state or federal government.

The Society, located at 3 Oakland Avenue in Menands, is open for adoptions seven days a week, Monday through Friday from 10AM to 6PM, Saturday from 10AM to 5PM and Sunday 1PM to 4PM. For more information, contact (518) 434-8128 or visit www.mohawkhumane.org.
