ALBANY, NY (04/16/2008)(readMedia)-- The Albany Academies is pleased to announce the addition of Bonnie Morse-Gilham as the Girls Varsity Swim Coach.

Ms. Morse-Gilham has served as the Aquatics Director, P.E. Teacher & Assistant Swim Coach for the Academies’ West Campus (The Albany Academy) since 1997. She has competed in numerous tri-athalons and has an extensive swimming background that includes competing and coaching at various levels.

Her goal for the swim program is to build it from the ground up, beginning with the Lower School classes. The Academies has added Pre-K & Kindergarten and 5th & 6th grade swimming for girls to its P.E. program this year; the school is also in its second year of swimming for 1st through 4th grades. In addition, the Academies has added girls to its modified swim program for the first time this year.

"These are the developmental ages for a strong varsity program," said Ms. Morse-Gilham. "Since I am the lead swim instructor and modified swim coach, I am hoping this continuity will give the girls a stronger stroke foundation on which to build. Our focus will be on individual improvement because success in swimming is measured by personal records... not wins and losses."

The Albany Academies is home to the two campuses of The Albany Academy (West Campus) and Albany Academy for Girls (East Campus), which share a nearly 200-year-old tradition of outstanding single-gender independent school education. Both campuses bring with them deeply treasured values of community, tradition, and purpose to the newly formed school known as The Albany Academies.

The Albany Academies is committed to developing the potential of the whole individual by building a community that fosters scholarship, leadership, character, service and creativity.
