The Albany Academies To Bake 100 Pies For The Joseph House in Troy This Wednesday
Students to assist The Joseph House in Troy for third consecutive holiday season
ALBANY, NY (12/17/2007)(readMedia)-- For the third consecutive holiday season, students from the East (Albany Academy for Girls) and West Campuses (The Albany Academy) of The Albany Academies will give back to those less fortunate as part of a joint initiative with The Joseph House in Troy.
Volunteers from both campuses will be baking 100 pies for The Joseph House this Wednesday, December 19 from 3:30 to 7 p.m. in The Buttery in The Albany Academy building (basement level of the building).
The opportune time for media opportunities would be 4:30-5 p.m., as community liaison Paul Dellio from The Joseph House will be joining the students during that time.
A number of boys and girls from the Academies will be delivering the pies to The Joseph House – an organization that assists the less fortunate through a variety of programs and services – on Thursday, December 20.
The idea for the initiative came about through the 11th grade leadership program at the Academies – led by Associate Director of Admissions Drew Lentz and Director of Finance & Business Operations Pam MacAffer. The students wanted to work with a charity for the holidays in an effort to better the lives of individuals residing in the Capital Region.
Debbie Kelly, mother of Patrick Kelly ’09 – a member of the Leadership Class – has been spearheading the effort; she previously led the effort to bake pies for The Joseph House when her daughter, Bridget ’07, attended Albany Academy for Girls.
The Albany Academies is home to the two campuses of The Albany Academy (West Campus) and Albany Academy for Girls (East Campus), which share a nearly 200-year-old tradition of quality, single-gender independent school education. Both campuses bring with them deeply treasured values of community, tradition, and purpose to the newly formed school known as The Albany Academies.
The Albany Academies is committed to developing the potential of the whole individual by building a community that fosters scholarship, leadership, character, service and creativity.
