The 257th Army Band of the D.C. National Guard on parade. The band will perform three free concerts this weekend at the D.C. National Guard Armory.

WASHINGTON, DC (05/14/2014)(readMedia)-- The Band of the Nation's Capital presents a Spring Tattoo, "The Spirit of the District of Columbia." The tattoo will feature the 257th Band's diverse ensembles, including Scrap Metal, the Ceremonial Marching Band, the National Woodwind Quintet, Capital Sound, and the Capital Messengers.

The band will premiere the first band arrangement of Jimmie Dodd's "Washington," the winner of the Washington Post's 1950's contest for the composition of the official song of the District of Columbia. Pack the family and prepare for spirited and uplifting music.

There will be three performances: Friday, May 16th and Saturday, May 17th at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 18th at 2 pm. All are free and open to the public. No tickets are required. All performances will be at the D.C. National Guard Armory at 2001 East Capitol St. SE 20003. The Armory is metro accessible via the orange and blue lines at Stadium-Armory station.

The DC Army National Guard's 257th Army Band, officially known as "The Band of the Nation's Capital" is the DC Army National Guard's band and boasts a proud lineage going back to the legendary Corcoran Cadets Corps, a unit John Philip Sousa wrote a march for of the same name.
