ALBANY, NY (08/26/2013)(readMedia)-- Statement from Heather C. Briccetti, Esq., president and CEO of The Business Council of New York State on the death of Muriel "Mickie" Sieibert
"The business community in New York has lost an amazing person. Mickie Siebert was a pioneer whose perseverance cleared a path for other women. As the founder, president and CEO of her own brokerage firm and as the first woman to serve as the state's superintendent of banking, she was very focused on the well-being of state's financial sector.
"Mickie was the longest continuously serving member of The Business Council's Board of Directors, having been elected in 1984. As a director of The Council, she was very helpful in recruiting other women to the Board. She was the recipient of The Council's most prestigious honor, the Corning Award for Excellence.
"Less well-known than some of her other passions, Mickie was concerned that young people understand personal finance and she developed a financial literacy program for middle and high school students that The Business Council has promoted and supported.
"We will miss her passion and spirit of perseverance. As she once said, 'You just have to keep fighting.'"
