PHILADELPHIA, PA (09/18/2012)(readMedia)-- Thomas Jefferson Radiologic Sciences alumnus Lee Bradley, MSRIS, RT(R)(CT)(QM), was published in the May/June 2012 issue of Radiologic Technology, the journal of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT), an award-winning journal that discusses all disciplines and specialties in radiologic sciences. Bradley's article, "Radiation Safety for Radiologic Technologists," discusses the basic principles of radiation production and safety measures for technologists. It also reviews the history and future of radiation protection, and measuring radiation exposure.
"When I was approached about writing an article for Radiologic Technology, I immediately thought of reinforcing the radiation safety principles we were all taught in school," said Bradley. "I see technologists putting themselves at risk every day. Familiarity with radiation breeds, if not contempt, then disinterest. I thought it well worth reminding technologists how relatively easy it is to keep themselves safe from harm."
Bradley is a full-time CT technologist for Shore Medical Center in Somers Point, New Jersey, and a pool CT technologist for Atlantic Regional Medical Center in Galloway, New Jersey. She has been an exam writer for the AART's national radiography exam and is the author of ASTR's CT Basics, Module V: Patient Safety. She also updates Directed Reading Classics for the ASRT.
