U.S. Chamber President Tom Donohue to speak at Business Council's 2012 Annual Meeting

ALBANY, NY (07/02/2012)(readMedia)-- The Business Council of New York State, Inc. is pleased to announce Thomas J. Donohue, president and CEO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, as The Business Council's keynote speaker on Thursday, Sept. 20 at the 2012 Annual Meeting. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business organization, representing the interests of over 3 million businesses.

Since 1997, Tom Donohue has promoted a pro-growth agenda that includes establishing a national energy strategy, strengthening capital markets and reforming health care and education. Under his leadership, the U.S. Chamber has seen numerous victories in the way of major tax relief, new free trade agreements and more practical workplace and environmental regulations.

"Tom has become an aggressive, national voice for business," said Heather Briccetti, president and CEO of The Business Council of New York State, Inc. "He has created numerous programs and tools that give businesses and chambers a more effective voice in their communities and in Washington. We are very happy to welcome him to our event."

The Business Council is a member of the U.S. Chamber and its Free Enterprise Network, and has supported its national advocacy efforts on tax, labor, economic development and other congressional issues. In addition, Business Council President, Heather Briccetti serves on the Chamber of Commerce Committee of 100 and the Public Affairs Committee.

Donohue also established the U.S. Chamber's Institute for Legal Reform, which aims to eliminate frivolous lawsuits and offset the broad reach of influence that plaintiff trial lawyers have over legal and political systems.

Before being named president of the U.S. Chamber, Donohue served for 13 years as president and chief executive officer of the American Trucking Associations, the national organization of the trucking industry.
