BARBOURVILLE, KY (09/09/2013)(readMedia)-- In honor of her Excellence in Teaching award, Dr. Jennifer Hatfield, assistant professor of wellness, was a featured speaker during the Union College Fall Convocation on Thursday Sept. 5.

The award, determined through a faculty vote, is presented each May during commencement.

Hatfield, a Rose Hill, Va., native who now lives in Corbin, offered students three basic pieces of advice for their educational journeys: play often, work hard and trust God.

"No one ever walks across the (commencement) stage by accident," she said. "You are here now to pursue dreams, seize opportunities and make memories that last a lifetime."

Hatfield began her teaching career in 2003 at Harrison County High School, where she taught health and physical education. At Union College, she is the program director for Health Education.
