Utica Military Police Company Holds Deployment Ceremony at SUNY Institute of Technology

UTICA NY (06/16/2011)(readMedia)-- Soldiers of the New York Army National Guard's 107th Military Police Company will mark their mobilization for deployment to Guantanamo Bay Naval Base with a short ceremony at the State University of New York Institute for Technology here on June 17.

WHO: Approximately 170 Soldiers from across the state of New York.

WHAT: Deployment Ceremony marking the transition of the 107th Military Police Company from state to federal control for a 365 day period of active duty. The unit will serve at the Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp.

WHEN: 3 p.m., Friday June 17, 2011

WHERE: SUNY Institute of Technology, Campus Center, 575 Residential Drive, Utica

BACKGROUND

The 107th Military Police Company will deploy to Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, Cuba to assist with security at the Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp there. The Utica-based company will mobilize Military Police Soldiers from across New York for the mission. The company is commanded by Capt. Chris Marion and the First Sergeant is 1st Sgt. Fabio Cardenas.
