NEW YORK, NY (08/17/2010)(readMedia)-- A 79-year-old Warren County woman who improperly collected workers' compensation benefits for more than 30 years was sentenced Monday to pay $242,000 in restitution and serve a three-year conditional discharge.
Anna Healey, of Lake Luzern, was sentenced in Saratoga County Court. She pleaded guilty on June 21 to a charge of offering a false instrument for filing.
Healey was arrested after an investigation by the New York State Insurance Department's Frauds Bureau and the New York State Insurance Fund's Confidential Investigation Unit.
The investigation showed that Healey began collecting workers' compensation death benefits after the work-related death of her first husband. She became ineligible to receive the benefits when she later remarried. However, she failed to notify the Insurance Fund of her remarriage and continued to accept the benefits.
She was charged with offering a false instrument for filing for sending written statements to the Insurance Fund falsely stating that she was not married.
